Heavens ...for the First Time in 60 years, Italy will miss the World Cup

For the first time since 1958, the FIFA World Cup will not feature Italy, a nation that has won the tournament 4 times. Sweden held Italy to a 0-0 draw in the second leg of the European qualifiers at the San Siro.

Sweden won the first leg at home 1-0, which proved to be enough to secure a ticket to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Despite creating the majority of the chances in the match and dominating in possession, Italy lacked the cutting edge they needed to find a goal, while Sweden goalkeeper Robin Olsen, captain Andreas Granqvist and his team mates did enough to help their nation over the line and into their first World Cup since Germany 2006.
Full time reaction by Italian players

Within an hour of the match ending, Coach Gian Piero Ventura of Italy had resigned. These aren't end times for Italian soccer, but for days, weeks and months on end, it’s going to feel like it.

The following other Countries will also be absent for World Cup 2018:
- The Netherlands,
- United States,
- Ghana and
- Italy.
