Akwa Ibom State University Students Union Election Timetable and Guidelines

The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Students Union Executive and Parliamentary Electoral Commission has issued the time-line of events that will lead to the elections of various leaders into positions in the students' body of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU). 

The sequence of events include:
i. Issuance of Nomination forms to aspirants --- 04/10/2017 to 06/10/2017
ii. Returning of nomination forms by aspirants --- 08/10/2017 to 09/10/2017
iii. Screening ------- 10/10/2017 to 11/10/2017
iv. Publishing of names of successful candidates --- 12/10/2017 to 13/10/2017
v. Lift of Ban on Political activities on Campus  --- 16/10/2017 to 17/10/2017
vi. Presentation of manifesto by candidates --- 18/10/2017 to 19/10/2017
vii. Election day --- Friday, 20/10/2017 by 9am.

The guidelines for the Executive and Parliamentary elections are:
- Aspirants contesting for the office of President and Secretary-General must have a CGPA of 3.50 and above, while other offices including Parliament are open to students with 3.00 CGPA
- Only matriculated students who have registered for the 2016/17 session are eligible to vote and must present their fee clearance card with a passport duly stamped by the Bursary Department for accreditation at the election venue.
- All aspirants for Executive and Parliamentary election must present themselves for screening on the 10th of October 2017. The venue is Work Station, Geology Department, Main Campus between 9am and 2pm.
All aspirants for Executive and Parliamentary election must also present themselves for Security screening on the 11th of October 2017 by the Chief Security Officer of the University by 9pm.
- All candidates must forward the name(s) of their agents with a passport photograph to the Electoral Commission Secretary 1 week before the date of election.
- Agents are to observe and report their complain to the Electoral Officer. Agents that misbehave during the Electoral process will be sanctioned.
- Candidates who campaign when the ban on political activities have not be lifted will be disqualified. Campaigning at the venue of elections will lead to outright disqualification of the candidate involved.
- Election Observers must obtain clearance through an application from the Electoral Commission 1 week to the date of the election.
- Parliamentary election will be done on departmental basis.
- The voting proper shall be by Open Secret ballot.

All those involved are to note the above and be guided accordingly.
