Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, has commended the Federal Government for deploying facilities which will enhance e-learning multimedia teaching programmes in the university through the Petroleum Training Development Fund, PTDF. Prof. Orumwense stated that the e-learning platforms have now been installed in the faculties of Engineering, Education, Pharmacy, Life Sciences and ICT Training Centre.
He disclosed this while reeling out achievements made so far as he clocks two years in office as VC of the university. He further said that faculties, units and hostels with Fibre Optic have been linked to the facilities for enhanced internet connectivity and service delivery. According to him, the ICT Network Operation Centre, NOC, room of the University has been upgraded to a “world class standard that can accommodate the 155mbps”, adding, “ICT development remains a cardinal goal of the strategic vision of this administration”.
On the academic front, Prof. Orunmwense said the university has taken bold steps to entrench a culture of academic excellence in the system through workshops and lecture series. He said such workshops includes pedagogue for young and intermediate lecturers which according to him, now holds on a regular basis meant to expose the tutors to the ethics of the teaching profession. “The Annual Research Day was also instituted by this administration in recognition of the critical role of research and development and the overall development of the nation”.
