The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has announced plans to commence the construction of a 55.1km super highway with six lanes and three spurs leading from Ukpenekang to Uya-Oro, through the Ibom Industrial City.
Governor Emmanuel at the State Executive Council meeting restated his commitment to the continuous progress and development of the state, citing the need to review government activities, consider new proposals and projects in line with current economic realities.
He listed the approval of 8.7 billion Naira for the Odoro Ikpe- Mbiabet-Ikpe Ikot Udo Road in Ini LGA, as well as the 4.5km road in Oruk Anam, alongside other projects aimed at opening the state up for government's economic renaissance plan.
Briefing government house press at the end of the state executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Communications Elder Aniekan Umanah alongside his Ministry of Works counterpart, Mr. Ephraim Inyang reiterated that the current state administration's resolve to better the lives of its citizenry was total.

The council according to the commissioner for information also re-awarded the Uyo- Oron Road project. Under the new arrangement the road is to be handled by two construction firms, with the 14.5km span of Airport Road to Okopedi awarded to Quitec while CCECC is to handle the 13.5km portion of Okopedi to Uya-Oron.
Approvals were also given for road developments across the state to ease transportation and fast track government's infrastructural expansion and consolidation programme, with emergency intervention works on five roads with protection in Oron, to complete the urban remodeling programme in the area.
