The Chartered Institute Of Certified Secretaries and Reporters (ICSR) held her 28th Annual General Conference and Mandatory Seminar in Akwa Ibom State University from Wednesday 15th to Friday 17th June, 2016. The event had as her theme “Professional Skills Development”.
In his opening remarks, the National Secretary of the Institute, Obong Louis Ekpah FCSR, welcomed all participants who were about seventy (70) in number to the event and charged them to be Open and Focused as the Seminar/training sessions promised to be very rewarding. Two (2) training session were taken on Office Management and Technology, where the Facilitator Mr. Francis Oshili exhaustively took the Secretaries round the world the ICT as it relates to their profession.
The second paper on Professional Self-Development was taken by Obong Louis Ekpah FCSR, where he experientially took the participants through the private and public world of Work. These sessions were quite educative and impactful.
The major highlight of the event was the inauguration of the AKSU Chapel of the Institute which was done side-by-side with the induction of newly enrolled members amongst who were 28 secretaries from Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU). Inductees were also received from other state universities and polytechnic across the country. The Vice-Chancellor of AKSU was beautifully decorated as a Patron in the Institute and he charged all Secretaries to ensure that they endeavor to as work as 'a square pegs in a square hole'.
The third and last day of the Annual General Meeting witnessed an elaborate exploration of the secretarial demands in the University environment. Here, the Registrar-General of the Institute, Prince Samuel O. A. Ozomah FCSR, exposed the Secretaries to the demands of their offices, the facilities/office equipment they need to work with and equally handled issues on Interpersonal Relationship.
The secretaries in AKSU expressed their gratitude to the distinguished Vice-Chancellor (Prof. Eno J. Ibanga FNIP) for extending such rare magnanimity to the Secretarial cadre. The secretaries promised to reciprocate same by rendering result-oriented services in the University.
